Lumps & Bumps Scan

£119

This scan is available to men & women from the age of 16 years.

If you have discovered a lump or swelling under the skin, this can be worrying. It is key to note that many lumps can be benign and harmless; however, for peace of mind, our Lumps & Bumps Scan can provide you with accurate assessment of the soft tissue, determining if the lump needs additional treatment.

Having an ultrasound scan for a lump or bump will provide assessment of superficial structures and give real time insight into the soft tissues. This can identify any cause for concern, giving you clarity when needed.

At Ultrasound Care, we offer this private Lumps & Bumps Scan for men and women aged 16 and above. All ultrasound scans are performed by our qualified sonographers across all of our clinics, giving you accurate results quickly.

The Purpose of Lumps & Bumps Scan

The main purpose of a Lumps & Bumps Scan is to provide peace of mind regarding visible lumps under your skin across the body. This ultrasound scan can help to identify:

  • Cysts (fluid filled lumps)
  • Lipomas (fatty tissue growths)
  • Abscesses
  • Infections
  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Soft tissue masses
  • Haematomas (collections of blood)
  • Inflammatory swellings

Common Signs That You May Need a Lumps & Bumps Scan

There are common signs that can indicate needing a scan for newly discovered lumps, including:

  • A new or unexplained lump
  • You have a lump that has increased in size
  • Swelling or tenderness around the lump or bump
  • A lump has occurred following injury or trauma
  • You are concerned about the nature of the mass

Who Would Benefit From A Lumps & Bumps Scan?

At Ultrasound Care, we aim to give you reassurance that your lumps and bumps are nothing to worry about, or to provide greater insight into the cause in order to discuss further with your GP for additional treatment.

If you are seeking reassurance, have been advised by you GP to investigate this further, or have a painful swelling, this ultrasound scan would be beneficial.

The Procedure For A Lumps & Bumps Scan

There is no specific preparation for a Lumps & Bumps Scan. We ask that you wear loose clothing that can be adjusted to scan the lump or bump. If you need to remove clothing to assess the visible lump, we can provide gowns.

During the scan, our sonographers will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. They will:

  • Ask about your symptoms and how long you have had the lump
  • Apply a water based gel to the lump area and use a probe to scan the lump, bump and surrounding area
  • Ultrasound will be used to assess the size, structure and composition of the lump.

Typically, a Lumps & Bumps Scan can take around 15 to 20 minutes and is a painless, non-invasive procedure.

Following your scan, our sonographer will give you an overview of their findings during the appointment. They will also give you a detailed report of all findings and imaging. This is for you to take and discuss further with your GP; we do not communicate directly with your healthcare provider.
