A targeted treatment that's used to reduce pain and inflammation in a joint or in the soft tissues that surround it, including tendons, ligaments, or bursae. Its known to provide both quick and long-lasting comfort by combining a corticosteroid drug with a local anaesthetic. To ensure more accurate placement and safety, cortisone injections are administered under ultrasound supervision at Ultrasound Care.

Depending on the patient and the area that's being treated, cortisone injections might have different affects. While the advantages may persist longer in certain situations, many people report relief for a few weeks to several months. Others may get shorter-term relief, especially if the underlying condition persists.

Yes, resting the treated area for at least 24 to 48 hours following the injection is typically advised. To allow the medication to settle and lower the chance of irritation, its best to avoid physically demanding activities during this time. Following this, you can work your way up to continue with regular activities, alongside a guided rehabilitation plan if recommended.

If the treated area is not heavily affected that you can drive yourself home after the cortisone injection. However, you could be told not to drive for the rest of the day if the injection is in a weight-bearing joint (like the knee, hip, or ankle) or if the local anaesthetic causes temporary numbness. Always adhere to your clinician's particular instructions.

The local anaesthetic may help some patients feel better in a matter of days, but the steroid itself usually starts working in three to seven days. Depending on the condition being treated, the level of inflammation and what sort of rehabilitation the patient is doing will effect when the true benefit of the injection kicks in.

Our standard conditions such as tendinitis, tennis elbow, trigger finger, shoulder impingement and more are £250, whereas more complex procedures such as hip joint intra articular, ganglion cyst aspiration and others are £300.

If you are having the cortisone injection in the same area, it is recommended to have no more than three injections in a 12-month time period. By following this dosage, any potential risks are reduced and joint or soft tissue health is protected. Based on your health and how you responded to prior injections, your clinician will recommend the best course of action moving forward.
